The downtown area is perfect for enjoying fantastic shopping, dining, and southern hospitality. The Peak on Salem is a downtown gem and features a daily changing menu that focuses on fresh ingredients and seasonal favorites. The cozy and classic décor adds to the feel of old-world charm that feels luxurious and inviting. 
 
Another downtown gem is the Salem Street Pub, an easy-going bar, and grill featuring local and imported beer, moonshine, and wine. The pub also serves classic bar foods with a local twist. Scratch Kitchen and Taproom is the place to go for impressive homemade dishes. They feature unique international dishes and have a weekend brunch. Enjoy dinner on the terrace or drinks at the bar.
 
The downtown area is also home to unique boutiques and shops. Bella + Mauve Boutique is a women's clothing store featuring casual and trendy apparel, accessories, and gifts. On the hunt for the perfect gift? The Rusty Bucket offers custom-made farm tables and chairs. In addition, they have trendy, fun, and rustic home décor and accessories.

Things to Do

The many parks and outdoor areas in Apex provide the perfect combination for an active outdoor lifestyle. Jordan Lake is a short drive west of Apex and has many beaches, recreation areas, and parks. There are also many hiking trails where you can get lost in nature or enjoy a walk by the water. There are also numerous boat ramps, marinas, and boat clubs where you can get out on the water and enjoy the day relaxing or fishing.
 
Apex Nature Park is a recreational oasis with nature trails, disc golf, and a dog park. In addition, the on-site Ampitheater has multiple concerts and events throughout the year. Another local park is Kelly Road Park which offers two playgrounds, one for ages two through five and another for ages five to twelve. There is also a lighted softball field, tennis courts, and a basketball court. In addition, the park is home to the Beaver Creek Greenway Trailhead, a trail that follows Beaver Creek from Kelly Road to Apex Jaycee Park.
 
Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the American Tobacco Trail, a 6.5-mile rail trail featuring various garden and picnic areas and restrooms. The path also has interpretive exhibits, and educational programs where you can learn the history of the rail trail, including its use to move tobacco leaves from the farming communities o the American Tobacco Company in Durham. As transportation moved from rails to trucks, the railway moved out of use and was eventually turned into this nature trail.
